Landscapes Update Released for Review

You are invited to review and comment on the proposed update to the County’s policy plan, Landscapes.

Landscapes establishes public planning policy for guiding growth and preservation over the next 10 years in Chester County. The draft plan update is presented in electronic format at: www.landscapes2.org. The update consists of both a map, entitled Livable Landscapes and text in the form of issues, policies, actions, and resources for each of the following elements:

Significant changes have occurred in Chester County since the adoption of Landscapes in 1996. Since that time, Chester County has become the fastest growing county in Pennsylvania – increasing by over 70,000 people in the last twelve years. The median home price has more than doubled between 1995 and 2007 (from $155,000 to $312,500). Over 54,000 new housing units have been proposed for development over the same period.

Chester County is now a regional employment center – not just a “bedroom community” of commuters driving outside the County to work. In ten years, the number of registered vehicles in the County grew by 35% - that’s 100,000 vehicles, all of which have an impact on area roadways.

You are invited to visit the website and offer comment on any aspect of the draft plan.
